Euthanasia is performed by first inducing deep sleep followed by the first injection. After five to ten minutes, the second injection is given. This will cause cardiac arrest.
The veterinarian carefully checks:
1. that the anesthesia covers deep sleep
2. at least twice with an interval of 5 minutes, that death has occurred irreversibly.
